The owner of the estate Felix Prinz zu Salm-Salm gave the students a tour and showed them the different cellars were the wine is stored. The “Prinz Salm” winery is the oldest family owned winery in Germany, it has been run by the same family since the year 1200. After the tour the students enjoyed a wine tasting, were Felix Prinz zu Salm-Salm talked about the diversity of the Riesling grape and how one can combine each wine with various foods. He went on to compare wine with music and art saying that you should not be influenced in which type you like and rather find out for yourself. Afterwards everyone could appreciate a few more hours in sunny Wallhausen eating some good food and tasting the newest wines at the “Schlossfest” which was happening at the same weekend. In the end many students even bought a few bottles of wine for themselves.
A big thank you to Felix Prinz Salm-Salm for the wonderful tour in such a welcoming, family-like atmosphere and to the SCR Grape Society which provided the contact. Most of the students are sure that they have to re-visit the winery in the future.
